The Ox: A Black Tortoise Asterism

Key Star: Beta Cap

The Ox Asterism has six stars and to ancient Chinese Astrologers it represents an ox hanged by a rope. They say it is ruled by Venus and is connected with the rearing of silkworms. Astrological symbolism is:

Discord, broken marriages, and the disappearance of provisions. Warnings against leaving doors open and the advent of sickness and starvation for animals.**

Early Arabian Astrologers called the Ox Al Sa'd al Dhabih. Here is a portent suggested by them:

The Lucky One of the Slaughterers. Helps the escape of servants and captives and the curing of diseases. With Moon here, take medicine, travel, but do not lend money or marry.*

In ancient India, Astrologers called the ox Abhijit and offered the following Portent:

Victorious. Symbol, a Triangle or Three-Cornered Nut. Under its influence the Gods vanquished the Asuras. It is an asterism belonging to the Vaisya caste and is used only in horary astrology.*

There is a star story about the Ox-boy and the Girl (or maiden.) The romantic story is best told in a Tai Chi Chuan Center Newletter. This is a free and safe link.
